Use of the Duquesne Kline Law Library 

Borrowing privileges are only extended to those with current and validated Duquesne identification cards. The Duquesne Kline Law Library is not to be used for general study purposes by non-law students. All non-law students must sign-in upon entering the law library.

Moreover, during non-exam time frames, access to the law library after 6:30 p.m. requires a swipe card and is limited to Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University faculty, staff, and students. During the exam period, restricted access limited to Duquesne Kline Law patrons runs from noon to midnight. Others may use the Duquesne Kline Law Library during a restricted access period only by appointment with 24 hours notice. Please contact  Chuck Sprowls for more information.

This Duquesne Kline Law Library is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents. Public access to the government documents collection is guaranteed by federal law. (Title 44 United States Code). If you have questions concerning the use of law library materials, please ask us.

Eating, Drinking, and Smoking

Patrons are allowed to bring in drinks in spill-proof containers or bottles. Open cans or food of any type are not permitted. Water fountains are available on all floors of the Duquesne Kline Law Library. The entire Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University building is a non-smoking facility, including the law library.

Group Study Rooms

Please contact Chuck Sprowls (412.396.1133) with Study Room questions.

Noise levels

Cell Phones

Use of cell phones and pagers is prohibited in the Duquesne Kline Law Library. All cell phones and pagers must be turned off or set on vibrating mode upon entering the Duquesne Kline Law Library. Please do not plug these devices into any of the Duquesne Kline Law Library's electrical outlets.

Borrowing Privileges

Borrowing privileges are extended to all individuals with a current Duquesne University identification card. Please consult the Duquesne Kline Law Library's Circulation Policy for more information.

Computer Usage

The Duquesne Kline Law Library's computers are for the exclusive use of current Duquesne law students, faculty and staff. Undergraduate students are not permitted to use the Duquesne Kline Law Library's computers. Members of the general public utilizing electronic U.S. Government Documents and other select databases may be restricted to dedicated terminals. Priority access will be granted to law students.

Duquesne Kline Law Library Telephones

You cannot make personal calls on the law library's phones except in case of an emergency or with the permission of a Duquesne Kline Law Library staff member.

Violation of Duquesne Kline Law Library Rules

The Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University Disciplinary Code, Section III states the following:

Offenses Involving Property

  1. A student shall not purposely, knowingly, intentionally, or recklessly tear, mutilate, mark, or otherwise damage Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne property.

  2. A student shall not conceal library materials or other Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University property.

  3. A student shall not remove books or materials from the Duquesne Kline Law Library without proper authorization, nor shall a student remove any other Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University property from the premises or possession of the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University without authorization.

Other Offenses

A student shall not violate any of the rules of the Duquesne Kline Law Library including, but not limited to, rules prohibiting eating, drinking, and smoking.
